Yarn Harlot Pictures

Thanks to Maxine for the wonderful pictures! (The pictures were making the page slow-loading - watch for a photo album on the regular Twist website, where they will reappear!)

Dang it, these are cute!

W. O. W.

Loving us some Yarn Harlot here in Wichita. What a wonderful time. What a wonderful group of people you are, you people!

Our Very Own Ingrid is featured in Stephanie's post about Wichita. Bona Fide Hero right there, ladies and gentlemen. Ingrid is one among many that we are proud to claim as Our Own and were so pleased to see getting some face time.

If you've got pictures you'd like to share, send them my way and I'll post them. Like a true dork I showed up sans camera and sans business cards. Nothing like being prepared!

Tattoos!!!

FedEx delivered Joy to my door today in the form of adhesive artwork.

Sadly, I left my camera at home today. Friend Andrea took this with her camera phone. Model is Lovely Lia.

Here is the original tattoo artwork:

Many thanks to Mirthquake Productions for the fine tattoo artistry.

Only $0.75 each at your LYS.

T-Shirts

Tomorrow (Tuesday the 11th) I'll have a couple samples of the larger sizes of t-shirt (3X) for you to try on. If you're wondering whether a 3X is right for you but you're not quite positive, please come by and take a look. I need to order more 3X's, but need to get an idea of how many. That's why it would help for you to come in, try it on, and tell me what size you want.

All sizes, including a few 3X's, will be in on Wednesday or Thursday. The additional 3X's will be in Friday or Saturday.

Thanks!

More knitting?!

Why are people so surprised at the popularity of knitting? Don't they know yarn crafters are the coolest people ever? Everyone wants to be like us. Here is a story on MSNBC. (Okay, it's more on that Microtrends book, but I feel it is my duty to point out a picture of someone knitting on a major news website.)

Speaking of cool, crafty people, I am so pumped about the release of the book, Crochet Me. It is now my official mission to turn you hardcore knitters into switch hitters, so to speak. You need to add crochet to your arsenal of talents. There are some things, quite frankly, that crochet does better. (A firmer fabric, for example, that is ideal for bags. Beautiful lace sweaters that you can make yourself instead of buying ready-made.) Watch out for a Crochet Revolution at Twist in October to correspond with the release of the book. Until then, please read the online magazine, Crochet Me, because it's worth it.

Time to Donate, Friends!

Do you have needles that you know you won't use anymore? Is there yarn in your stash that seemed like a good idea at the time, but has been sitting in your closet for far too long? Now you'd like to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it more. Have I got a deal for you!

Twist is having a drive for the Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation. Pine Ridge Reservation serves many people, and has a good use for anything we can send. Gather up the supplies you've got gathering dust. Women at the reservation's shelter need tools and yarn for projects. If you'd like to knit or crochet a little something, a variety of organizations can use any and every thing we can send. The elderly love lap robes, afghans, hats and slippers. Lots of babies need warm clothes - hats, blankets, and sweaters are appreciated.

In honor of our hero Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and the social activism she inspires, please make a special effort to bring your donation to the shop on the day she visits - Sun. Sept. 16th.

Thanks!

Knitting in the news

I heard this on Marketplace* on my way home this evening. You can read the transcript if you click on the link. The discussion is about a new book - the occurrence of teenagers taking up knitting is identified by the author as a microtrend.

Yay, economics!

*A radio show on KMUW all about money, finance, economics, that sort of thing.

Final Friday and Movie Night

Final Friday was a blast. Thanks to the Wichita KIP group for volunteering to sit and knit - and for bringing goodies! I got lots of compliments on what a great shop I have and how inviting it is, and I know it's because you guys provide a welcome for everyone who comes in the door. We had a huge crowd and got many kudos from the Wichita arts community.

Movie night was fun, too. Once we (I) took care of some brightness issues (ahem) and we could actually see the movie, it was even better.

Confession time: the lovely dark-haired lady in the foreground is my good friend who came to visit from out of town. She doesn't actually knit. I made her hold my sock for the picture.
